Dubai Airport Floods Amidst Heavy Rainfall, Disrupting Flights

Record-breaking rain in the United Arab Emirates leads to severe flooding, impacting the world's busiest airfield.

Inundated Dubai International Airport and delayed flights hinder travel plans.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, resulting in the closure of Dubai International Airport, the world's busiest international airfield. The state-run WAM news agency described the downpour as "the heaviest rain the desert nation has ever recorded." The impact of the deluge has disrupted flights, affecting travelers around the globe.

As of Wednesday, over 270 flights to and from Dubai International Airport were canceled. The airport management posted an update on Twitter, stating that flights had resumed from Terminal 1 and urged passengers to travel to Dubai World Central airport due to flooding. However, the airport advised passengers to check with their airlines for flight information before heading to the airport.

The flooding has also affected roads leading to Dubai airport, making it difficult for passengers to reach the facility. The low-cost sister airline of Emirates, FlyDubai, announced that some outbound flights would operate from one of its smaller facilities, Dubai World Central airport. The airline experienced flight delays and cancellations due to the weather conditions.

In neighboring Oman, rescuers located the body of a girl in Saham, bringing the country's death toll to 19 since Sunday. Oman has been experiencing similar heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding and landslides.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates are working to clear the roads and restore normal operations at Dubai International Airport. However, passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight information before traveling to the airport.
